ART SCHOOL

EMBODY is a unit focused on the body as a site for art making. High school students considered a variety of approaches to the body in contemporary art and discussed artists who are making work that addresses the body. In this exploratory unit, we considered the body as theme, subject, vehicle and tool in the art-making process and begin to tap into the inexhaustible possibilities that surround this topic. This included approaches such as wearable sculpture and performance-based work.

CONCEPT
DEVELOPMENT

Students begin developing their concepts by mapping out ideas, related content, and thumbnail sketches.

They then create "photographic sketches" from available materials to get a feel for how their sketches translate to forms in space that relate to the body.
